Cat5

Category 5 (Cat 5) cable is a twisted-pair cable used for computer networks. Since 2001, the commonly used variant has been the Category 5e (Cat 5e) specification. The standard cable provides performance up to 100 MHz and is suitable for most types of twisted-pair Ethernet up to 2.5 GBASE-T, but more commonly operates at 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) speeds. Cat 5 cable is also used to carry other signals such as telephone, audio, and video. This cable is commonly terminated using punch-down blocks and modular connectors. Most Category 5 cables are unshielded and rely on the twisted-pair design of the balanced line and the differential signal for noise suppression.
