For the professional photographer who needs high resolution, speed and video capability, there is now the Canon EOS R5. This full-frame mirrorless camera sets a new benchmark for versatility, offering a newly developed 45MP CMOS sensor with the ability to capture 8K raw video, 12fps continuous shooting with a mechanical shutter, and is the first EOS camera to feature 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation.
In addition to resolution, the sensor is combined with the advanced DIGIC X image processor to enable a new generation of Dual Pixel CMOS AF for fast, fluid, and intelligent focusing performance with 1053 selectable points covering the entire field of view. This focusing system has also been updated to utilise deep learning technology for enhanced subject recognition and precise detection of the eyes, face and head in both humans and animals.
Complementing the imaging resources, although it features a new design, the R5 is also familiar to EOS 5 series users. An electronic viewfinder with 0.5‘ 5.76 m high-resolution dots offers a realistic refresh rate of 120 fps, while the rear 3.2’ LCD touch screen features a variable-angle design to meet the demands of vlogging and allow working from high and low angles. The top-of-the-range model offers an intuitive workflow and the camera also features two memory card slots, one CFexpress Type B and one SD UHS-II, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity.
The EOS R5 is based on a newly developed 45 MP full-frame CMOS sensor, offering both high-resolution still images and video output. The optimised DIGIC X image processor completes this at high speed. ISO sensitivity of 100-51200, expandable to ISO 102400, is suitable for working in a range of lighting conditions, while fast continuous shooting at up to 12fps with a mechanical shutter or 20fps with a quiet electronic shutter is ideal for working with moving subjects.
The full-frame 45MP sensor not only enables photos, but also high-resolution DCI 8K 30 fps raw video recording internally, as well as 4K recording at up to 120 fps in 4:2:2 with 10-bit Canon Log. HDR-PQ recording is also possible, with in-camera HDR production and external recording via HDMI supporting clean 4K output at up to 60 frames per second. Both All-I and IPB compression options are available, along with the ability to use Dual Pixel CMOS AF when recording at up to 8K raw.
The R5 is the first EOS camera to feature five-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation, which compensates for up to eight stops of camera shake, enabling effective compensation for camera shake to allow manual shooting at slower shutter speeds. This stabilisation system also works in conjunction with the optical image stabilisation used in both native RF lenses and adapted EF lenses.

Capture sensational 45-megapixel photos at up to 20 frames per second, or push a button and create 8K video at 12-bits in RAW format, using the full width of the camera's sensor. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is lightning fast and has 5,940 selectable AF points covering virtually 100% of the frame. Moving subjects remain in sharp focus, even when they move quickly and unpredictably, while face and eye detection is ideal for shallow depth-of-field portraits.
The camera's autofocus is programmed using artificial intelligence with deep learning technology developed for our innovative EOS-1D X Mark III. This allows the EOS R5 to recognise and track a subject's face and eyes with a new level of accuracy and precision, even when viewed from the side. This tracking function is also available when photographing dogs, cats, birds and even vehicles, an absolute first for EOS cameras.

The EOS R5 uses an always-on Bluetooth Low Energy connection to maintain a continuous link with a smart device. Simply launch the Canon Camera Connect app and the camera will establish a fast Wi-Fi connection that lets photographers browse, review and transfer images, as well as shoot remotely.
