Claiming the title of world's first mirrorless camera with a global shutter, the Sony a9 III is a fast and incredibly capable system for sports, wildlife, photojournalism, and much more.
This revolutionary sensor technology raises the bar for full-frame imaging, including the ability to shoot in RAW mode in sequences of up to 120 fps and to take advantage of flash synchronization up to a maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 of a second.
Combining the functionality of this 24.6 MP sensor with Sony's powerful BIONZ XR processor and AI processing unit results in a system that will provide unparalleled performance for those looking for an incredibly responsive and reliable photographic system.
Global Shutter: a first for mirrorless cameras
Sony has introduced the world's first full-frame mirrorless camera with a global shutter with the a9 III.
The use of a global shutter offers a leap in performance compared to the shutter technology that has been used for decades.
A global shutter provides an almost instantaneous and simultaneous readout of all 24.6 MP, eliminating distortion and other artifacts that plagued rolling shutters.
It also far surpasses mechanical shutter technology in every way, making the physical shutter unnecessary in the a9 III.
Global shutters help ensure consistent, uniform exposure across the entire frame under all lighting conditions.
Flash synchronization is possible with any shutter speed, even the maximum of 1/80,000 of a second.
Simultaneous reading also prevents the banding effect caused by certain light sources, such as fluorescent lighting.
In the gym, outdoors, or with mixed artificial lighting, the a9 III will handle it with ease.
Professional-quality 4K video
The a9 III captures and subsamples the entire 6K image area to produce high-quality 4K UHD video at up to 60 fps.
It can also record in 4K at up to 120 fps without cropping.
Record internally in 4:2:2 10-bit format using All-I encoding for maximum quality.
16-bit RAW output via the full-size HDMI port to an external compatible recorder.
S-Log3, S-Cinetone and other picture profiles are available to optimize the image for your production environment and workflow.
