The Volume2 was created as an economical alternative to the full-optional stereo control room MTC 2381 and is dedicated exclusively to level control. The Volume2 is intended for stereo applications, while the Volume8 can control up to 8 channels (surround system). Both devices are designed with active circuitry to circumvent the inevitable drawbacks of passive circuitry that lead to impedance variation and thus linearity degradation in frequency response. Who needs analog level control? Volume2 is aimed at DAW (digital audio workstation) users. Most D/A converters and sound cards do not have analog level control, resulting in the need to vary signal levels at the converter outputs. The result is a reduction in the bit rate in the control signal, which can lead to proportional loss of audio quality. Another very interesting area of application is the audiophile's construction of a high-quality stereo playback chain, where Volume2 is located between the machine ( CD, SACD, DVD-A, etc.) and the power amplifier or simply to the active speaker system. In such cases, the playback machine must have analog outputs available. Common AV receivers employ VCA and DAC components that tend to produce distortion, or even worse the signal goes through additional AD/DA converters for volume control. Thus, especially with SACD or DVD-A sources, only high-quality analog circuitry ensures perfect playback and direct source control of the original information.
