SPL GainStation 1

Modern audio productions over the years have led to an increasing development of digital systems for recording, processing and mixing (DAWs, digital consoles, etc.). But even today, digital systems do not offer the same audio qualities and sound characteristics as high-end analog equipment. Especially digital equalizers and other aspects of mixing cannot compete with the openness and transparent sound of the best analog circuits. Therefore, now more than ever, your input signal must sound as good as possible; the quality of the recording largely affects the final result. SPL addresses this problem on the preamp front, with the goal of greatly improving the signal and managing its path as best as possible. All this required a great deal of effort both in terms of design and 'engineering-the result is the GainStation 1. Its very compact design also allows it to be placed outside a rack (e.g., near the microphone). A combination of 63dB of solid-state preamplification (+7dB with optional transformer) and 26dB of the tube stage (which can also be turned off) ensure a wide sound palette. In any situation the engineer can now achieve his goals with a front end for the best result between the two worlds. To enhance portability, the optional SPL GainBag ensures safe transport of the GainStation 1 and provides additional storage for cables and a medium-sized microphone. For additional permanent installations, up to four GainStations 1 can be mounted via an optional 19-inch, 3-unit high rack frame. SPL engineers are very pleased with the result; it was well worth the investment of time and effort in the development of the GainStation 1. The result is a very compact device, a surprisingly flexible preamplifier that offers audio quality found only in cost prohibitive units. SPL believes it has set a new record in sound for the category.
