Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder

MicroFreak Vocoder Edition is a paraphonic hybrid hardware synthesizer with 16-band vocoder and included gooseneck microphone that is distinguished by its white-colored body. It integrates advanced digital engines, SEM-inspired analog filter and capacitive keyboard with poly-aftertouch, designed for vocal synthesis, sound design and live performance.

MicroFreak Vocoder Edition expands the MicroFreak platform by introducing a 16-band vocoder transforming the instrument into a complete solution for processing voice and external sources. This edition retains the hybrid architecture that combines advanced digital oscillators with a variable-state analog filter inspired by classic Oberheim SEMs.

The sound engine includes a wide selection of digital oscillator modes, ranging from wavetable, FM and harmonic synthesis to experimental algorithms developed in collaboration with Mutable Instruments and Noise Engineering. The Vocoder mode integrates directly into the synthesis flow, allowing vocals to be modeled through the synthesizer's internal engine, resulting in articulate, robotic, or highly expressive vocal timbres.

The capacitive printed circuit board (PCB) control surface, free of mechanical parts, integrates a pressure-sensitive flat keyboard with poly-aftertouch. This approach allows independent modulations for each note, making detailed expressive control of parameters such as formants, filter, and modulations possible.

The variable-state multimode analog filter, with low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass modes and 12 dB/octave slope, can also operate in self-oscillation, allowing both vocals and internal sources to be sculpted.

The modulation architecture is based on a 5x7 matrix, flanked by two envelopes, a main LFO and a cyclic envelope that can be used as a second LFO. The built-in sequencer and arpeggiator include Spice and Dice functions for controlled variations and evolutionary patterns.
