Black Lion did not sacrifice an ounce of tone when it shrunk its classic Seventeen compressor to fit the portable format of the 500 series. Seventeen, for those who don't already know, is Black Lion's unique version of what could have been the classic '76 limiter amp with the advantage of today's technology. It is not your grandfather's '76. Seventeen 500 offers deep details and nuances you've never heard before with a '76-style compressor. And you also get some features not even available on the originals, including wet/dry mix control, a stereo link option, and a frequency-adjustable sidechain high-pass filter. It's not your grandfather's '76. Seventeen 500 is Black Lion's take on what could have been the classic '76 compressor. Featuring a redesigned and improved IC-based front-end, Seventeen 500 renders incredible details and nuances not normally possible with a '76-style computer, while adding some features not available on the original '76s. What makes Seventeen 500 different? First, Seventeen 500 features a new IC-based front-end circuit not found in classic '76 compressors. It provides a clean, punchy, modern sound with slight compression and a more colorful vintage character when pushed. That front-end, when combined with our custom-designed, Chicago-made output transformer, is why Seventeen offers a huge low end that balances its open top end very well. All in all, Seventeen 500 is able to offer a wider tonal palette than the '76 originals. Seventeen 500 features BLA's proprietary Black Lion-style power decoupling for an incredibly low noise floor. It also uses high quality Nichicon signal capacitors, widely considered among the highest quality capacitors available, further reducing the noise floor. Black Lion could have stopped there-but why? Also get a wet/dry mixing knob for parallel compression right out of the box. In addition to offering a tone palette unavailable to anything else on the market, Seventeen 500 also includes the all-important stereo link function. Last but not least, yes, it has an "all buttons" mode, and we have made it much easier to activate multiple ratio controls simultaneously than with classic models.
