The Frontliner is the new benchmark among channelstrips, and the special innovation of I/O on individual sections allows it to be inserted as an analog plug-in in both DAWs and traditional studios! The Frontliner is the new benchmark among channelstrips, and the special innovation of I/O on individual sections allows it to be inserted as an analog plug-in in both DAWs and traditional studios! The Frontliner has all the tools on board to record vocals and instruments at the highest quality: a preamplifier, de-esser, EQ, and compressor are merged in it. Thanks to the I/O on the individual sections, these powerful hi-end analog processors can be inserted into any type of studio and can also be used during mixing and mastering. The added value suddenly becomes clear: This technology allows the Frontliner to be used simultaneously to preamp a microphone and to insert the other 3 processors ( de-esser, eq and comp) on as many tracks in the mix. The preamplifier, as in the GoldMike MK2, consists of a discrete transistor stage followed by a tube stage (Sovtek 12AX7 LPS) with two different settings ( three in the GoldMikeMK2 ) for modifying harmonic content. The de-esser employs a proprietary SPL technology that by analyzing the level and spectrum of the signal reduces sibilance with the phase cancellation method, using a single knob! This innovative approach is more neutral than traditional compression methods. With three bands, the EQ section is equipped with two semi-parametric filters for the low and mid/high range to cover the entire frequency range efficiently. High frequencies, on the other hand, are handled by the renowned "flair" circuit based on a passive inductance equalizer for greater flexibility and improved presence. In series with the equalizer we find the saturation control using another Sovtek 12AX7 LPS tube. Unlike semiconductors, the valve does not "cut off" the signal beyond a certain level, but gets closer and closer to the sounds produced by harmonic distortion. The sonic results resemble tape saturation effects, and harmonic distortion increases the energy density, which is perceived in a very pleasant way. The compression module is based on the Kultube and provides a full set of classic controls and, as in the latter, the AUTO setting is dependent on the attack and release settings, in fact these values oscillate in a range determined by the envelope of the input signal. With this option, manual and automatic control can be merged to always find the best settings.
