The Neumann M 50 V is a faithful reissue of one of the most famous microphones in the history of orchestral recording. Rebuilt according to the original specifications using documentation from the Neumann archives, it recreates the unique character of the M 50, a staple of great recordings using the Decca Tree configuration and AB stereo recordings of orchestras, choirs, and ensembles. Its defining feature is the omnidirectional capsule mounted on a 40-mm-diameter sphere. This design allows the microphone to behave as an omnidirectional microphone at low frequencies, delivering full, natural bass without proximity effect, while above approximately 1 kHz it gradually becomes directional. The result is a distant pickup with superior presence and definition, and a highly precise stereo image. The K 33 Ti capsule features a titanium diaphragm, which offers excellent transient response and greater stability compared to earlier versions. The circuit is tube-based with an output transformer, and each unit is hand-assembled and hand-soldered in Germany. The frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 16 kHz, with a sensitivity of 19 mV/Pa and an equivalent noise level of just 15 dB-A. The set includes everything needed for use: the M 50 V microphone, the NM V power supply, the 7-pin KC 5 cable, the MZ 49 A elastic suspension, and a protective case. It is a benchmark microphone for classical recording studios, concert halls, and film productions seeking the expansive, deep, and three-dimensional sound of the most celebrated orchestral recordings.
