The HotShot DM-1 is a device designed to solve communication problems on stage for artists who use in-ear monitor systems. The HotShot DM-1 is a simple passive footswitch that quickly reroutes the signal without interrupting the performance. Using the DM-1 is easy: simply connect any dynamic microphone to the input and send the XLR main output to the mixing console, then connect the cable from the second output of the DM-1 to the common intercom bus. As soon as the foot switch is activated, the signal sent to the main output is switched off and forwarded to the monitoring system. This allows the musician to discreetly talk to other band members or discuss a problem with the technicians. As soon as the footswitch is released, the system automatically returns to normal operation so that the show can continue as usual.

Practical applications of the HotShot DM-1

Use DM1 for silent communication on stage

For silent communication on stage, simply connect the microphone to the DM1, connect output 1 to the PA system and output 2 to a separate channel on the monitor mixer. When the foot switch is pressed, the PA system output is muted and the signal is sent to the monitor mixer.

Using the DM1 as a cough suppressant

On stage, singers can sometimes get a coughing fit! If you connect the microphone to the DM1 input and output 1 of the sound system and feel the urge to cough, simply press and hold the foot switch to mute the system. When you release the foot switch, the system returns to normal operation.

Using the DM1 to add effects

The DM1 can be used to add a special effect to the microphone: use the two channels, with the first set to normal operation and the second set to effects such as echo or chorus. Simply hold down the footswitch to activate the effects and release it to return to normal operation.
