Equipped with a 61 MP full frame sensor, a brand new AI-based autofocus system with advanced subject recognition, 8K video recording and 8-stop image stabilization, the fifth-generation a7R is reliable and complete for both photography and video applications.
61 MP full frame CMOS sensor
Featuring a back-illuminated design, this 61 MP full frame Exmor R CMOS sensor offers a combination of incredible resolution with high sharpness, low noise and a wide dynamic range of 15 stops. The sensor structure promotes impressive image quality image and a copper wiring layer greatly improves data transmission speed for the creation of high-resolution 61 MP 14-bit still images with a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-32000, which can be further expanded to ISO 50-102400.
Updated for the a7R V, the in-body image stabilization system has been revised to support up to 8 stops of camera shake compensation. This 5-axis stabilization system combines a high-performance gyro sensor with an optimized algorithm for more precise vibration control and better communication between the camera body and the lens.
In addition, specifically for video, an Active IS mode is also available that adds even more precise stabilization methods for even smoother footage directly from the camera. Furthermore, this digital stabilization system has been updated with a new algorithm that offers the best stabilization performance when paired with selected OSS-compatible lenses.
AI processing unit
Using dedicated processing, the a7R V's autofocus benefits greatly from more intelligent subject detection and recognition capabilities together with the reliable hybrid AF system for which Alpha cameras are renowned. Real-time recognition AF works with seven different selectable target types:
Human, which tracks head and body positions for accurate portraits. Real-time Eye AF performance has also been improved by 60% thanks to its human pose estimation capabilities.
Animal, Bird and Animal/Bird modes are now 40% more accurate at tracking and recognizing a variety of animal types. Recognition of these subjects includes dogs, cats, birds and more, with the ability to focus on the eyes and recognize animal bodies and heads.
Insect recognition offers even better performance with the ability to detect the head or the entire insect subject.
Car/train and airplane recognition means that the camera can detect the front of a train, the nose of an airplane or easily detect the entire fast-moving subject.
8K 24p and 4K 60p support
Taking advantage of the high-resolution sensor and fast processing capabilities, 8K 24p and 4K 60p UHD 10-bit XAVC HS video recording is possible using the full width of the sensor with full pixel readout for impressive clarity and realism.
If you are using a Super 35 crop, you can record full pixel readout up to UHD 4K with frame rates up to 30p or you can use 6.2K oversampling for greater sharpness and detail.
Internal 4:2:2 10-bit sampling is possible up to 4K 60p in XAVC HS and XAVC SI, and if you're recording externally via the full-size HDMI A port, you can utilize 16-bit raw output for even greater tonal reproduction and post-production flexibility.
Raw output is supported up to 4K 60p, and simultaneous 4K internal recording is also possible.
