The new DPS-2 is an exceptional linear power supply that not only boasts impressive technical specifications, but also offers a range of unique and extremely useful features, such as two differently filtered outputs. The housing and front panel of the DPS-2 are based on the ADI-2 series in order to accommodate RME's innovative circuit design in a half-width rack.
The linear output is a conventional DC output, but features multi-stage passive and active filtering, including a 30,000 μF capacitor bank, a ferrite inductor, and an active output filter with hybrid voltage regulator.
The second output is based on μFilter technology (RME patent). In this case, the pre-filtered signal from the linear output is also processed by highly efficient active filters to achieve an exceptionally clean DC output with noise of only a few μV (microvolts). In addition, the output is equipped with sensor technology that measures and adjusts the output voltage directly at the DC connection of the supplied DC cable. This keeps the output impedance and load regulation extremely low, ensuring a clean output voltage of +12.0 V at a load of 2.5 A, completely eliminating load-dependent voltage drops.
The additional use of a 2-stage HF filter and a DC filter on the mains side allows the DPS-2 to deliver optimal performance without interference. This is further enhanced by the 60 VA audio-grade toroidal transformer with additional isolation winding and magnetic tape shielding, which ensures absolutely hum-free operation in all situations, while the ground lift switch can be used to disconnect the DC ground from the ground circuit if necessary to eliminate interference or hum. In this case, safety is not compromised as the primary side and the housing remain firmly connected to the mains earth. In addition, the DPS-2 has a screw earth connection for grounding other devices or for using a different earth for the audio supply.
The DPS-2 has two status LEDs on the front panel that provide a quick overview of the operating mode and possible faults (power supply, thermal overload and overload, undervoltage, short circuit, active output). A recessed push switch on the front panel activates the AutoDark mode, in which the LEDs only light up when the unit is switched on and in the event of a fault.
