AUDIX DP-Quad

The Audix DP QUAD pack is the simplest and most effective combination of microphones needed to capture the depth and sound image of a complete drum kit. With a D6 for the kick drum, an i5 for the snare drum, and two ADX51s for stereo panning, the DP-QUAD is designed to create a perfect blend of close and wide miking. The D6 and i5 are high SPL dynamic microphones, excellent for close miking, a technique necessary to capture the attack in percussive sounds. The D6 will help bring out all the low end in the kick drum sound, while the i5 will reinforce the depth and attack characteristic of the snare drum. These two microphones are the heart of every drum kit and the foundation for every groove, making them a must-have for all drummers. The ADX51 is a pre-polarized condenser microphone with a 14 mm gold-atomized diaphragm, designed for overhead applications. Depending on the positioning, the ADX51 is designed for the high frequencies of toms and cymbals. Overhead (ambience) miking supports the ‘less is more’ theory, as using two microphones at the top will better capture transients and tones, and you will also get a natural balance of the kit with completely coherent phase.
