Radial Engineering J-Iso

Radial J-Iso is a signal converter useful for interfacing professional equipment with consumer-type equipment such as: computers, portable recorders, and other devices that use unbalanced signals. In fact, it accepts a +4 dB balanced line level as input and converts it to the -10 dB unbalanced format. It also features set and forget control for optimal level setting in signal transfer.

Notable features

  • Converts balanced line-level signals to unbalanced
  • Stereo signal path with set and forget level control
  • Isolated transformer to eliminate hum and vibration
  • Jensen transformers that optimize the signal path

Optimal signal management

Radial J-Iso is made with passive electronics employing 100% discrete components. It possesses set-and-forget level control that allows attenuation of the input signal so as to avoid overloads to the target device. Output connections include a pair of ¼ stereo connectors, a set of RCAs, and a mini 3.5 mm (1/8) for interfacing with a mini recorder or laptop computer. Transformer isolation helps eliminate hum and noise caused by ground loops while eliminating stray DC flow. It is constructed with a 14-gauge steel shell that uses Radial's unique book structure. This creates a protective zone around the connectors and controls for increased durability. The steel structure also helps shield the transformers from external magnetic fields. Inside, the J-Iso features an innovative I-shaped skeletal insert that makes it virtually impossible for the PC board to twist. This reduces potential stresses that could cause premature failure of solder joints.

Applications of J-Iso

Use of J-Iso in performance recording

Sometimes the output available on a professional console is balanced at +4dB. This makes it difficult to power a portable recorder. The J-Iso comes to the rescue with a simple interface and all the necessary connectivity.

Using the J-Iso to convert a balanced signal

The J-Iso makes it easy to convert the balanced line-level output of a preamplifier to any -10dB consumer audio device. Transformer isolation is further advantageous as it eliminates hum and noise caused by ground loops.

Using the J-Iso to send an audio signal to a computer

Computers are always noisy! The Radial J-Iso's superior Jensen transformers help eliminate hum and noise while delivering exceptional audio. To set the signal level, adjust the set-and-forget level control on the J-Iso.
