Radial Engineering LX2

Radial LX-2 is a Line Audio Splitter Attenuator, passive and balanced. It allows an audio signal to be sent to two destinations simultaneously without introducing noise, while offering the ability to attenuate the hot signal output from mixers or microphone preamplifiers.

Notable features

LX-2 passive line attenuator and splitter

  • Sends one audio signal to two different destinations simultaneously
  • Uses a Jensen transformer, for superior audio quality
  • Eliminates hum and noise caused by ground loops
  • Variable, switchable trim control for easy level adjustment

Ease in splitting and attenuating a signal

The input of the LX-2 features an XLR/TRS combo jack for connecting balanced/unbalanced line signals to be split and sent to two different destinations. The Jensen JT-11-FLPC internal transformer provides excellent frequency response and phase coherence, ensuring that the best audio quality is maintained, while isolating the two outputs from each other to eliminate hum and noise caused by ground loops. Ground lift switches on each XLR output help further reduce noise generated by ground loops. For situations that require level adjustment, the LX-2's trim control allows you to attenuate excessively loud signals-this way you can push your mic preamps to the desired coloration and adjust the level with the LX-2's trim to prevent incoming clipping in your recording interface. This trim control is activated by a recessed 'set and forget' switch: for live use or in situations where attenuation is not necessary, simply turn the switch off to avoid accidental and unwanted level adjustments. The LX-2 is built with 14-gauge steel to be reliable night after night, even on the toughest tours, with the folding design providing protection for connectors and switches. The rigid I-beam construction prevents the circuit from twisting, eliminating the possibility of damaged solder. The LX-2 has a small footprint and offers the advantage of being rack-mountable for up to 8 units using Radial J-Rak. Radial LX-2 is a no-compromise solution: it provides a line splitter with a Jensen isolation transformer and an attenuator in one compact and robust device.

LX-2 - Practical Applications

Stage output splitting

It is possible to send the output of a mic preamp or line-level device to a recording interface or PA System.

Subdivide the output of a mic preamp in the studio

Send the output of a single mic preamp to two compressors simultaneously. Use the trim level control to push your distortion-free preamp input into the compressors.

Use LX-2 for parallel effects processing

Split the output of a preamp by feeding an effects device and sending the clean signal to the recording interface, mixing the signals together in the DAW for parallel processing.

The LX-2 has a dual function: it can be used as a balanced line-level splitter and as a signal attenuator, ideal for a variety of studio and stage situations. At the heart of LX-2 is a Jensen Premium transformer, which splits a mono audio signal by sending it simultaneously to two destinations.
