The 2Control combines speaker/headphone monitoring in a compact, easy-to-use, high-quality device. Any digital audio workstation (DAW)-based studio can benefit from its important and essential monitoring functions. Who needs an analog volume control? Most D/A converters and sound cards do not have analog level control, resulting in the need to vary signal levels at the converter outputs. The result is a very low signal bit rate, which can lead to proportional loss of audio quality. The advantages of an analog volume controller become particularly apparent in combination with modern audio and video production tools such as ProTools ª, ª Nuendo, Cubase ª, Logic ª, Deck ª, etc. We have the ability to adjust the level of the monitors and manage the sound source totally independently of the software without any loss of quality. You no longer need to set up additional auxes for monitoring. Also, you no longer have to worry about adjusting the gain of converters to change monitor levels.
The 2Control is based on a dual-channel concept that allows you to connect two sources, two sets of stereo speakers and two headphones. Each of the three speaker outputs (2 stereo sets, 1 per mono speaker) is driven by a balanced stage throughout the audio path, this excludes signal degradation due to unbalanced implification and is immune to inter-channel noise. Each headphone output is driven by a single amplifier that allows completely independent operation, with no interaction between the two outputs. Operation The 2Control's high quality SPEAKER volume pot and related active circuits meet the highest quality requirements demanded in professional audio applications, ensuring usability and excellent sound characteristics. In contrast to passive circuits, the 2Control, thanks to its active circuitry, is not affected by impedance variation as the output level changes. In fact, a change in impedance would change the frequency response and phase. In addition there is often a need to "zoom in" on audio material, for listening to very quiet musical passages or to check for defects-and only amplifiers with active signal circuitry allow accurate and linear volume control. Much attention has been placed on headphone listening sessions in recent times. One of the most important reasons is the need in modern productions for decentralized processes. It follows that many musicians or producers may want (not to mention have to) perform a mix at home or outside the recording studio. Here is where headphones become a necessary must, allowing one to be able to work in the evening or in a late-night session unhindered by the surrounding acoustic environment. Now, every user is aware of the advantages of headphone monitoring, but also of the main drawback: the difficulty (if not impossibility) of recreating the same stereo image perceived by the placement of one's own speakers in the studio. To overcome this drawback, the 2Control has "crossfeed" control for the two headphone outputs, derived directly from the high-end Phonitor headphone amplifier. From the principle, headphones have the disadvantage of producing a 180-degree stereo panorama-the crossfeed control can be used to adjust the stereo panorama corresponding to the stereo speaker image.
Inputs 1 and 2 are calibrated for +4 dBu analog line signals. Input number 2 can alternatively be adjusted with a sensitivity of -10 dBV of the nominal level. The +4 dBu nominal level represents the international standard for professional audio equipment, while the -10 dBV corresponds to the standard in consumer electronics, ideal for comsumer connection of CDs/DVD-Players, etc. Switches Switches for source and listening selection, as well as MONO and DIM switches complete the monitoring controls - without complicating the user interface and electronic circuitry . The 2Control, with its unique crossfeed control, allows the stereo panorama of the headphone to be calibrated to match the stereo aperture perceived by the speakers. The concept of the unit therefore based on duality: two channels, two sources, two sets of speakers, two headphone outputs. 2Control.
