KORG electribe 2 BL MUSIC PRODUCTION STATION

The fastest and most intuitive way to produce beats. A music production tool based on analog physical models

The evolution of the electribe series continues

New blue-colored model - a nod to Electribe history - After the gray-colored model, the lineup sees the introduction of the new blue-colored galvanized metal model reminiscent of the historic ELECTRIBE MX. Complementing the eye-catching aesthetics are numerous backlit LEDs.

System update packed with new features - Updates allow us to constantly evolve the Electribe series. Version 2 of the operating system introduces undo and pattern chain functions. Users who already own or will purchase Electribe 2 and Electribe Sampler (the gray and black ones) can upgrade the instrument operating system and take advantage of these new functions.

More than 200 Patterns Available via Download - Artists, sound designers and beat makers from around the world have created bonus patterns for the Electribe series complete with new sounds, musical phrases and sequences. These patterns include sound patches, drum kits and patterns that can be used in numerous electronic music contexts. Designed as reference material, these patterns can become the cue for your first experience in beat-making, or a source of new inspiration for your own productions.

From studio to stage, total control of your patterns - Control sequences in real time without compromise - Use Pattern Set and Pattern Chain to organize and manage complete arrangements - Apply effects in real time by interacting with the X/Y touch pad - Sync, MIDI and Audio In for integration into any set-up

Finalize your sequences professionally - Interoperability with Ableton Live: export patterns to Ableton format - Event recorder: capture your performances as you are playing them live

Electribe 2 BL (blue) is a groove box based on a powerful synthesis engine that allows you to turn your ideas into music very quickly, thanks to numerous oscillators inspired by analog synthesis and a rich variety of filters. All operations from sound selection to editing are easily performed using the potentiometers available on the instrument's dashboard. Programming and creating rhythms, bass lines and melodies are also exemplified through the different interfaces (touch pads, pads, step sequencer, MIDI IN) available, so you can quickly create your own sequences in a few simple steps.

Sequences created with the Electribe can evolve further live, either within your computer, by connecting via MIDI or analog sync to other instruments, or by exporting the sequences to Ableton Live format for editing and finalizing within the popular DAW software. Recent version 2 of the operating system introduced the highly sought-after pattern chain function, which extends the sequencer's potential in both live performance and music production. Aesthetically, the Korg Electribe also looks more attractive, thanks to a new blue metal dashboard. New additional patterns also increase the instrument's sonic potential.

The ability to materialize your ideas into beats takes shape. Here is electribe, a synthesizer + sequencer optimized for speeding up electronic music composition and production.

Sound Design Facilitated by Potentiometers

Powerful analog + PCM model synthesis engine

The Electribe's sound engine features as many as 55 different oscillators reproduced based on analog patterns, for unparalleled flexibility in the world of groove boxes. You can select simple waveforms, from sawtooth to pulse, triangular to sine wave, or go for the more complex Sync, Ring Mod, Cross Mod and VPM variations. All parameters have been meticulously selected to allow you maximum satisfaction with the least editing. This means that all you have to do is select an oscillator and turn the potentiometers to bring to life sinuous bass lines, powerful polyphonic leads, enveloping pads, and whatever other synthesis sounds you need. The PCM wavetable lets you tap into as many as 257 drum and percussion samples essential in beat production, 44 sampled instruments such as piano, organs, brass, guitars, and a selection of 52 sounds including sound effects and vocal samples. Another important development in Electribe is polyphony, indispensable for certain musical strands that require complex chords and harmonic progressions such as Soulful and more refined House music.

Numerous filters to shape your sounds

Filters play a key role in sound design, as they are capable of drastically altering the sound reproduced by oscillators. In addition to the new filters produced specifically for the new Electribe series, the 16 available algorithms include those developed on the physical models of historic synthesizers: the MS-20, MG, P5, OB and Acid. By selecting one of these filters and intervening on the cutoff and resonance parameters you can unleash your creativity.

Modulation section for creating evolutionary sounds

Modulations greatly enrich a sound, a track, but they are often difficult to implement, as they are complex and with parameters that are not easy to interpret. In the Electribe, modulation sources such as envelope (EG) and LFO are already assigned to destinations such as filter cutoff and oscillator pitch. Korg has thoughtfully condensed Electribe's modulation management into just 3 parameters: selection of one of no less than 72 templates that include the effect (source) and what you want to apply it to (destination), intervention on the modulation speed, and control over the influence it will have on the original sound.

Rich selection of effects for individual parts and patterns

The new Korg Electribe is equipped with 32 insert effects applicable to each individual part, among which we find compressor, eq and overdrive, to allow you appropriate sound manipulation on each individual sound employed in your pattern.

From inspiration to Pattern creation in moments

Enter or play notes via the velocity-sensitive pads, or generate phrases via the touch pad

For each part (sound), the electribe allows you to compose musical phrases by entering notes on the 64 steps (16 steps X 4). You can create a base by combining up to a maximum of 16 parts for each pattern. The step sequencer is extremely intuitive. The 16 trigger pads and X/Y touch pad operate in various ways to suit your knowledge of music theory and your compositional needs in producing rhythmic parts and melodic phrases.

  • Trigger mode: This is ideal for listening to the sounds associated with individual parts before entering sequencer mode. The pads are velocity sensitive, and by tapping them rhythmically you can play realistic drum and percussion patterns.
  • Sequencer Mode: This mode is perfect for programming rhythmic parts. Each pad takes on the role of one of the 16 steps that make up a pattern. You can record steb-by-step, or insert or remove notes from the sequence.
  • Keyboard Mode: When you want to play melodies this is the most appropriate mode of operation. The 16 pads become keys on a keyboard respecting the scale, root note and octave settings you are going to apply.
  • Chord Mode: In this mode each pad generates a chord. You can play and add chords to your sequence, which will respect the scale settings you apply.
  • Gate Arp Mode: This operating mode of the X/Y touch pad comes in very handy for playing bass lines or hit-hat patterns. You will be able to interact with the touch pad while playing the trigger pads, to bring melodic rhythmic arpeggios or fills to life.
  • Touch Scale Mode: If you are unable to play the keyboard, or if you want to experiment this is the right mode. As in the Kaossilator, by moving your fingers on the horizontal axis of the touch pad you can generate melodies that will respect the scale and root note settings you apply.

Korg electribe allows sound editing and sequencing in parallel: create your own sequence and intervene on the sounds as you play it back. An efficient way of producing beats, much more convenient and immediate than using DAW software since you will find everything at your fingertips in one intuitive working environment when you turn on the instrument.

Motion Sequence: record automations in real time

The Motion Sequence function allows you to record and replay potentiometer movements, then automate editing parameters.

Last Step to generate unusual metric divisions

The Last Step function allows you to vary the number of playable steps in the sequence of the selected part in real time. The purpose is to reproduce unusual and unconventional rhythmic designs by assigning a different step duration to the pattern of each part.

Grooves for a more human and natural feel

twenty-five are the groove templates from which to select, for each part, the one most appropriate to the interpretative technique of percussive lines played by instruments such as conga and bongo. By selecting a groove type and adjusting its dynamics you can develop more believable rhythmic patterns, going beyond the classic squareness of 16-step sequencers.

From studio to stage, total control of your patterns

Control of sequences in real time and without compromise

Sequences programmed on the Electribe come to life during your live performances. For example, by taking advantage of the Step Jump function you can jump from one step to another on the fly by simply pressing the dedicated pad. Electribe allows you to play via the trigger pads and touch pad and also record during your onstage performances; impossible to pick a wrong note once you set the scale and key note. Electribe in live use does not limit you to just playing the programmed sequences, but gives you a way to express yourself by editing them in real time, applying effects, filters, and all the other unique functions designed for live use.

Pattern Set and Pattern Chain to bring complete arrangements to life

With the Pattern Set function you assign your favorite sequences to trigger pads, so you can quickly switch from one pattern to another by simply pressing the corresponding pad. While you're playing you can change the sequence to vary, for example, the accompaniment base. Version 2.0 of the OS sees the introduction of the new Pattern Chain function with which you can sequence multiple patterns in order to create longer, longer-lasting arrangements.

Touch Pad X/Y for controlling effects

You can use the Touch Pad to control the multi-effect Master as if it were a Kaoss Pad. From resonance space effects to loopers to give your sequences that extra edge, or Seq Reverse or Odd Stepper to radically change the sound of your patterns. Incredible added value to your performances.

Sync, MIDI and Audio inputs and outputs for integration into any set-up

Thanks to the sync input you can easily sync to other analog instruments or groove boxes from Korg's house (and beyond), you can connect the electribe to the electribe sampler, to a Volca series product, or to the SQ-1. MIDI IN and OUT ports, and USB MIDI also allow interconnection with DAW software installed on your computer and with other MIDI-compatible instruments.

Electribe also comes with an audio input. By connecting an external source and selecting Audio In as the oscillator you can process from the built-in filter and effects the audio it plays.

In the past, live setups based on hardware instruments required numerous synthesizers, samplers and sequencers. Today, with the Electribe you can fulfill many of these roles by exploiting it as the main element of an instrument chain, or as an additional instrument for your performances. The built-in sequencer can receive from keyboards and transmit to other MIDI instruments the notes you play or record. Feel free to experiment with concatenation with other instruments.

Add the finishing touches to your musical sequences

Interoperability with Ableton Live for a streamlined workflow

Using your favorite DAW software you can collect, organize and develop the various backing tracks you create in Electribe into complete songs. KORG has collaborated with the team from the German company Ableton to offer the user optimized and rapid project sharing between the hardware instrument and Live software. In addition to classic audio export, the new Electribes feature export to Ableton Live format. Once the file is opened within the software you will find the audio of each part on separate tracks in the project so that you can edit, edit, add effects, record new parts, and proceed to the final mixing and mastering of your track. Included with Korg Electribe you will find a LITE version of Ableton Live* software.

Ableton Live Lite can be downloaded here -

Event Recorder records your performances

Everything you do with the Electribe in real time, including interaction with trigger pads and touch pads can be recorded with the Event Recorder function. Recorded performances are saved in the Electribe's native format and are therefore playable at any time, even instantly directly from the Electribe itself.
