SE Electronics RNT

Multi Pattern Valve Microphone Designed by Rupert Neve

RNT is the third microphone developed in collaboration between sE Electronics and RND. With uncompromising depth and clarity, this new microphone provides an open sound typical of vintage studio microphones.

The transduction quality is evident from the first stage, thanks to the tube inside the chassis, a hand-selected EC82, and the low noise floor with a Rupert Neve Designs custom output transformer. The second stage is the floor box, which controls the polar pattern, filter and gain, also featuring an RND output transformer. Everything then is based on the same op-amps as the Rupert Neve Designs 5088 console, which is certainly unrivaled in transparency and headroom.

The capsule, the finest ever produced by the company and handmade in sE labs after years of listening and testing, is a hand-built wide-diaphragm condenser. Quiet components and a consistent dynamic range, capable of handling high SPLs, are ensured by the Class-A electronics and gain switch. Low-pass filters eliminate any background noise and can also compensate for excess low frequencies due to the proximity effect. This makes RNT perfect for applications such as close miking of various instruments, including electric guitar cabinets, wind instruments, and drums. In addition, the ability to choose from 9 different polar patterns (omidirectional, cardioid, figure-of-eight, and various intermediate positions) allows precise definition of the balance between direct and room sound.
