SSL Revival 4000 Channel Strip

Solid State Logic Revival 4000 is an all-analog channel strip that encapsulates the unique and unmistakable character of the SSL 4000 Series consoles of the 1980s, true instruments that made international music history. Designed to faithfully reproduce the sound of the legendary 4000 B and E consoles, Revival 4000 offers all the warmth, musicality, and sonic flexibility that made Solid State Logic an absolute reference in recording studios around the world. Launched in 1976, the SSL 4000 revolutionized music production with superior sound quality and innovative features. The extremely rare SL 4000 B installed at London's Townhouse Studios featured on such epoch-making productions as Peter Gabriel's "Intruder" and Phil Collins' iconic "In the Air Tonight," with a drum track that made modern recording history. In 1979 came the "SL 4000 E," destined to become one of the most iconic consoles ever, used in the world's most prestigious studios (Abbey Road, Electric Lady, The Hit Factory) by the likes of Hugh Padgham, Chris and Tom Lord-Alge, and Andy Wallace to record artists such as Prince, U2, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, and Nirvana. Revival 4000 concentrates the best of this legacy in a sleek 1U 19" rack chassis, offering a range of faithfully recreated historic circuitry: Jensen transformer microphone preamp from the celebrated E Series, for rich, defined and musical sound delivery. De-Esser from the 4000 B Series, with 10:1 compression ratio and 7 kHz sidechain filter, perfect for taming sibilants and aggressive sounds on vocals and instruments. Dynamics section inspired by the E Series Class A VCA, with compressor, gate/expander, soft/hard knee mode, fast attack on/off and logarithmic/linear release. Parametric 4-band equalizer, with a choice of "Brown Knob"' and "Black Knob" modes, the latter developed in 1983 in collaboration with George Martin for AIR Studios. Revival 4000 offers extremely flexible signal handling, with: Balanced insert for connecting external processors. External sidechain for creative controls and ducking compressions. Ability to link two units for stereo compression. Customizable ordering of processors (pre/post EQ, input filters, Dynamics and De-Ess post-EQ). High-pass and low-pass filters, with different slopes depending on the selected mode. Dedicated input/output metering section.

  • Main features: Microphone preamp with Jensen transformer.
  • Single-controlled De-Esser 4000 B: 4000 E series dynamic processors with VCA (discrete Class A circuitry).
