SE Electronics Reflexion Filter Space

The new sE Electronics SPACE is an advanced, fully redesigned version of the award-winning Reflexion Filter, which, with its patented Multi-Layer Air-Gap technology, has revolutionized music production techniques in both the home and recording studio. Larger and with more layers and sound-absorbing materials, SPACE (which stands for Specialised Portable Acoustic Control Environment), has a larger surface area designed to provide optimal isolation in any environment for professional-level vocal or instrument recordings.

SPACE now incorporates 10 layers of sE Multi-Layer Air-Gap technology, with also the inclusion of seven new vertical low-frequency shims that further improve the spread of sound frequencies. The new sE Electronics SPACE also includes new mounting hardware, with a solid clamp that is fully adjustable and lockable vertically and horizontally, with the ability to tilt the instrument for recording at any angle.

The Reflexion Filter is a patented mobile device from sE Electronics that allows recording of sound sources while minimizing reverberation from the recording environment and keeping the frequency response of the microphone virtually unchanged.It is like a complex artificial wall that can be placed behind any microphone using an adaptable clamp included in the package, and which also allows the RF to be attached to the microphone stand. The main function is precisely to achieve a dry recording of a voice or instrument, especially in environments that do not have adequate acoustic treatment, or when there are other sound sources behind the microphone, such as other musicians in the rehearsal room.

The SPACE Reflexion Filter consists of 10 main layers: the first layer is a reinforced aluminum grid that allows sound to pass through a layer of absorbent wool. The sound waves then pass through an aluminum foil that helps dissipate energy by interrupting low frequency waveforms, and then pass into an air gap maintained as such by the rods that pass through the various layers. The air gap acts as a true sound barrier. The sound wave passes to a subsequent layer of absorbent wool and then through another aluminum grid that absorbs and diffuses the remaining acoustic energy. The main surface consists of 4 molded parts composed of a special high-acoustic absorption material and mounted via separating rods that provide additional absorption and diffuse the sound waves before they pass to the main filter.

The various layers of the Reflexion Filter absorb and together diffuse the sound pressure waves hitting them; the source sound gradually loses energy with each layer it passes through. This greatly reduces the energy hitting the walls of the room re-entering as unwanted reverberation into the microphone. The Reflexion Filter design also prevents the re-entry of room reflections from behind and from the sides of the microphone.

Through the combination of several layers of aluminum and patented absorbing materials separated by insulating air gaps, the Reflexion Filter is the only product of its kind that while maintaining a compact and manageable design allows room reflections to be minimized without coloring the sound.
