Already unveiled as a preview and limited edition in May 2018 at Moogfest in Asheville, Moog is now introducing the Subharmonicon to the market, adding to Moog's family of semi-modular analog synthesizers (Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32 and DFAM).
Subharmonicon is a semi-modular synthesizer handcrafted in the American Moog factory capable of generating complex sounds and patterns while being extremely simple to use. With two VCOs, four Subharmonic Oscillators, two 4-Step Sequencers, and four Rhythm Generators, the possibilities of sound creation are guaranteed, whether in standalone mode or in combination with the other members of the Moog Mother-32 semi-modular family, DFAM, or any other external Eurorack compatible hardware.
The six powerful sound sources (the two analog VCOs and the four Subharmonic Oscillators) are the basis of this new semi-modular analog synthesizer designed for the exploration of sequences that unfold and evolve over time. Subharmonics are obtained by frequency division of an audio signal tuned high enough to provide useful excursion (dividing by two, you get the lower octave, dividing by three, you get the fourth to the lower octave , etc.). If, by integer multiplication of the note C you get - for the first eight harmonics - the C Major chord, dividing the same note C and using subharmonics you get the F Minor chord.
The Moog Subharmonicon is a powerful, versatile and innovative instrument with which to create unique and impressive soundscapes, as well as the most complex polyrhythms, all with extreme immediacy guaranteed by a very simple and intuitive approach to synthesis.
